BOYD LAKE LOVELAND, CO FISHING REPORT

2025 Outlook – Boyd will remain one of the best fisheries in northern Colorado. There is a strong population of walleye and white bass that provide quality year-round action.  The walleye fishing is good to great pretty much year-round. Boyd is known for being a premier smallmouth and largemouth fishery in northern Colorado for quality sized fish, both smallmouth and largemouth over 20 inches can be caught here.   The lake will be stocked with good numbers of trout in the spring and fall. The perch number are rebounding and that with the strong bluegill numbers make for some fast action for panfish. There is also a chance at a bonus tiger musky.

  • Spring (March-May) – The walleye and trout bite start the season out strong in March. Once April rolls around the white bass and smallmouth bass bite starts to pick up. May is a good month for all the species. Especially white bass when the inlet is running, walleyes are good to excellent, and the bass can be caught up shallow once the lake is filled.
  • Summer (June-Aug) – Walleye fishing stays strong through the summer. Starting in late June you can usually catch white bass boiling on the surface. The largemouth and smallmouth bass bite is good through the end of June and starts to slow down a bit. Trout tend to taper off about the same time. The panfish and catfish bite is usually good through out the summer months.
  • Fall (Sept-Nov) – Walleye switch over to more reaction baits as the fall progresses with the bite being good. White bass start grouping up and fishing can be fast and furious spooning when you locate a school (100 fish days are not uncommon during this time of the year). The largemouth and smallmouth bite starts to pick back up. The trout bite gets good in Oct/Nov when the state starts stocking them again. The late fall panfish bite can be lights out!
